Independent MEP Nessa Childers has offered her Labour party counterpart Phil Prendergast her sincere condolences. Ms Prendergast’s father, Eddie Foley, died this morning following a short illness.
‘I was saddened this morning to hear the news of the death of Phil’s father Eddie,’ Ms Childers said today. ‘Needless to say, her family are very much in my thoughts now.
‘And it is at times like these that all of us are reminded that politics comes second to family,’ Ms Childers added.
Ms Prendergast was a Senator until 2011, when she replaced Alan Kelly as MEP for South.
Mr Foley’s removal takes place tomorrow night evening at the Foley family home, while a funeral mass will take place at 11am on Friday at the church in his native Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny.
He is survived by his wife, Josie.
